Clinical Evaluation for Function Recovery of Renal Disorders Using 99mTc-DMSA Scintigram

Abstract
99mTc-DMSA(dimercaptosuccinic acid) renal uptake rate have provided an index for the cortical functioning mass and also made feasible a quantitative assessment of differential renal function by setting up a regression equation. We have known
99mTc-DMSA
renal scan could provide determining therapeutic effectiveness of diseased kidneys. The authors have investigated posttherapeutic follow-up 99mTc-DMSA scan to evaluate an improved function of diseased kidneys in 21 cases of 19 adult patients
above
24
years old. 15 cases of them underwent invasive therapies such as nephrostomy, pyelonephrolithotomy, partial nephrectomy and retrograde catheterization due to urinary tract obstruction or urinary stones, and 6 cases of them recevied medication
therapies
such as drug medication and ESWL(extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy) due to urinary infection and urinary stone. The results of posttherapeutic follow-up 99mTc-DMSA renal scans revealed discordance with comparison of serum creatinine in 9
cases(43%)
of them. There were improving findings in 5 cases(33%) of an invasive therapy(n=15) and 4 cases(67%) of a medication therapy(n=6). If an invasive therapy itself was to induce renal function impairment, we could conclude that the posttherapeutic
follow-up 99mTc-DMSA renal scan is an appropriate method to evaluate the function recovery of diseased kidneys.
